A Look Back at Franchise Mastermind 2024
At last year’s Franchise Mastermind, aspiring franchisees were guided by Hsien Naidu, Principal Consultant of Astreem Consulting, through a one-of-a-kind simulation that brought franchising theory to life. Using specially designed Resource Cards representing factors like Capital, Passion, Work Experience, Time, ROI, and even Luck. Participants evaluated how these variables shaped their ability to select and invest in the right franchise brand.
Teams then engaged directly with real franchisors such as Bodystreet, Signarama, Fight Zone, Joe & Dough, Whiskdom, Chewy Junior, and Supergreen. After in-depth discussions, each team presented the franchise brand that best fit their goals and circumstances. For many, it was an eye-opening, hands-on experience in making business decisions with confidence.
A Firsthand Franchise Journey
For Teck Tiong, one of the participants at Franchise Mastermind 2024 who later became a Chewy Junior franchisee, the experience was transformative:
“I think it was a very good experience for me, because I came in without any knowledge. People come into this event to hear from franchisors, but also to learn about operational best practices, pitfalls, and what franchisees should look out for. It gave me confidence. After the event, I continued to explore even further by attending franchisee courses. I strongly encourage people to attend this event to learn more about franchising.”
He added that the unique simulation helped him better understand his own strengths, evaluate franchisor profiles, and gain the confidence to ask the right questions:
“Without going into this event, I would not have known any of this. It was very mind-opening to network with other like-minded people. I remember the game where we did a kind of matchmaking with franchisors, it was very interesting and valuable. Instead of just listening to a speaker at a masterclass, this activity opened our minds and gave me a whole new experience.”
