A Family Favorite Turned Business
For Singaporeans with a sweet tooth, Chewy Junior is more than just a dessert, it’s a nostalgic treat and a trusted brand. For franchisee Nooruddin, the decision to turn his family’s favorite treat into a business with his wife felt natural. “My wife always bought Chewy Junior from Bugis, it’s an all-time family favorite,” he shared.

This deep connection was one factor in his decision. Another was practicality: starting from scratch would mean years of building trust, but with Chewy Junior he could lean on a brand people already loved.

Training and Support that Matter
Another franchisee, Kani, echoed the benefits of a tried-and-tested system. “When there is already a system in place, franchisees can focus on running the business instead of reinventing the wheel.”
Nooruddin entered F&B with no baking background. “I didn’t even make Maggi at home!” He laughed. Thanks to Chewy Junior’s extensive training and supportive franchisor, he could still run a successful outlet.
The franchisor’s support also extended to outlet location, rental negotiations, and renovations. During manpower shortages, they even loaned staff to keep operations smooth.
Systems that Ensure Consistency
Maintenance of product quality is of paramount importance to Chewy Junior. “The puff has to be right; it sets the tone for everything else,” Nooruddin said. A standout system implemented by the franchisor is their real-time sales projection. “By midday, we get a projection of how we’re doing. It helps us meet our sales targets and drastically reduces wastage.”
Weekly audits by the franchisor further ensure accountability and consistency. “For example, if the chocolate coating is too thick, the franchisor will flag it, and that saves the franchisees money,” Nooruddin explained. These regular checks create a system of continuous improvement to maintain quality.
The Key Ingredient: Active Involvement
But the most crucial ingredient to success as a franchisee? Active involvement. “There’s no single attribute. You have to be hands-on, willing to learn, and ready to take action immediately,” Nooruddin explained.
A franchise may provide the systems and support, but ultimately it is the owner’s commitment on the ground that makes the difference.
Breaking even was a milestone, but it’s the daily joys that make the journey worthwhile. “The freedom of time is one thing, but what’s really satisfying is seeing a customer’s face light up when they bite into one of our puffs.”
